Care information
Care information
Out of the box, the board is ready to use or gift to someone. You may notice your new cutting board has some oil leakage — this is totally normal. Your board is finished with mineral oil and wax, which is food safe. This protects your cutting board and keeps it looking fresh.
With proper care, your board will serve your kitchen for countless meals and holidays!
Daily care instructions:
● After each use, wash the board in warm-to-hot soapy water then let it fully dry
● Our recommendation: stand the board upright on its side to allow the biggest board surfaces (top and bottom of the board) to dry thoroughly
● When not in use, leave the board out in the open, such as on your countertop, where there is sufficient airflow to ensure it can breathe
Long-term care instructions:
Over time and depending on use, the board’s color might fade slightly or its finish might get rougher. When this happens, it's a great time to add another coat of mineral oil* to your cutting board:
● Using a clean paper towel, spread a thin coat of oil on all sides of the board, then let the board sit for about 20 minutes (this will give your board enough time to absorb the oil it needs)
● After 20 minutes, use a clean paper towel to wipe off any excess oil
● If there is no excess oil, repeat the oiling process — it may take up to three coats for the board to absorb enough oil
To ensure your board’s longevity:
● Always hand wash, no matter how dirty the board is
○ Don’t use the dishwasher or let the board soak in water, as this can permanently damage your board
● Always use mineral oil to coat the board when it shows wear — mineral oil will minimize your board’s absorption of food odors and protect the board best
○ Avoid using other oils to coat your board
*Food-safe mineral oil can be purchased at any local or chain hardware store, as well as online.
